# Automatic creation and mapping of field values

When mapping Jira single-select lists to aqua single-select fields, you can create a single-select list field in aqua and leave the values empty.&#x20;

During the jira sync set up, the list will be shown as empty. You just need to select option ‘Automatically create all new field values in aqua from Jira on a regular basis’

<figure><img src="https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXeiKwGLIlTOEIJ1EiqkHZNg2OthB4vtY5GDr5ckzwWLSUHuxHz-MzPq3M-5RMMchYWUrnhHy5yEfZL8gnXzrxYjogiG9UXKigNYTKuFgaUMskJqlCZEkvXnqT-LaKsRe6kv9j1a?key=er9VTj6T1JcwJnjf7z10Btcc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

During synchronization, Jira sync will automatically populate the list with values from Jira to aqua and continue updating it whenever changes are made on the Jira side.

If there are already values in aqua, they will be refreshed with each sync to reflect any updates from Jira.

The difference to the setting ‘Automatically create new values in aqua only when used in Jira fields’ is that in the 2nd option, aqua sync will not populate ALL the values from Jira to aqua, but only those that were used.&#x20;

Please note that these options are disabled when 'Ignore unknown values' is enabled.

This option is not available for 'Status' field.
