Guidelines
Version 22.123.0 Date: 20.12.2022
Useful when:
You want to keep everything in one system instead of creating Excel files or managing your requirements and test cases in different tools.
You want to confirm that all requirements will be accounted for in the testing phase.
You need to see by which test cases or test scenarios the requirements are covered.
You want to evaluate by what number of test cases or test scenarios the requirements are covered and see if the number is suitable to move forward within the development process.
Guide
Step 1: Open the ‘Requirements’ navigation page.
Step 2: On the project ribbon, click the ‘Select columns’ button.
Step 3: Choose the ‘Covered by Test Cases’ or ‘Covered by Test Scenarios’ option from the pop-up and drag it to the requirements grid.
Step 4: Once you add the column with test cases, you will see IDs of all test cases linked to the requirements. You will also see the tooltip with a title upon hovering on the test case ID, so you can instantly understand what test case is linked to the requirement.
Step 5: Once you add the column with test scenarios, you will see the IDs of all test scenarios linked to the requirements. You will also see the tooltip with a title upon hovering on the test scenario ID.
Step 6: If you have more than 20 linked test cases, there will be the ‘View test cases’ button instead of the IDs. When hovering on the button, you can see the number of linked test cases
Step 7: When you press the ‘View all test cases’ button, the ‘Dependency’ mode will be activated so you can check all linked test cases.
You use aqua only for test cases management.
You want to have a clear prioritisation workflow and keep your QA team focused.
You want to organise work in sprints for QA specialists.
You don’t want to use multiple tools for managing QA and dev teams.
Guide
Step 1: Navigate to the ‘Agile’ tab
Step 2: Enable ‘Test cases’ to display items in the backlog alongside other item types.
Step 3: If you want to create a board exclusively for the QA team, start by creating a new sprint.
Step 4: Enable ‘Test cases’ on the board of the new sprint.
Step 5: Navigate to the backlog, select the test cases and drag them to the created sprint. You can instead right-click the test cases and select from the context menu to which sprint you want to move items.
Step 6: Drag and drop items between the columns or re-prioritise them within the column if needed.
You want to simplify backlog management for the QA team.
You want to keep your backlog clean and transparent for QA engineers.
You don’t want other teammates to see test cases in the backlog until you finish your part of the work.
Guide
Step 1: Navigate to ‘Project settings’.
Step 2: Select ‘Agile’.
Step 3: Click on the checkbox next to the status of the item which you don’t want to show in the backlog.
Step 4: Click the ‘Save’ button to apply the changes to the settings.
Note:
This setting doesn’t hide columns from the Scrum board. If you move an item to a status you marked to hide in the backlog, the item will still be visible on the Scrum board.
Once you remove the item from the sprint, however, it won’t be visible in the backlog anymore. You can still find the test case in the ‘Navigation’ tab.
Useful when:
You need to quickly check the content of the item
You want to swiftly look through ticket details to understand whether this it is the issue you are looking for
You need to see more details about the ticket that is added to the board or backlog page
Guide:
Step 1: Navigate to the backlog page and press the space bar or click the preview icon.
Step 2: Once the preview panel appears, navigate between the items, and you will instantly see the content of the item on the panel.
Step 3: If you need to view more than just fields, you can hover over the panel and scroll within it to see the description too.
Step 4: In case you need to open the ticket to check comments or dependencies, simply click on the expand icon and the item opens in a separate tab.
Step 5: If you would like to share the ticket with your colleague, click on the link icon and the URL will be automatically copied to your clipboard.
Step 6: When you want to close the preview, just press the spacebar again or click on the preview icon.
Step 7: On the scrum board, open preview the same way by clicking the preview icon or pressing the spacebar. You can switch between the tickets on the board and view the content just the way you can do it on the backlog page.
Notes:
When activating the preview, it will always show the last previewed ticket.
Preview is enabled/disabled separately for backlog page and scrum board.
The preview option is not available on the navigation page yet.
Useful when:
You need a tool to record videos and annotate screenshots that provides visual proof and steps to reproduce the defects
You want to give more context for your developers to fix the defect faster
You are looking for a powerful tool that can work with aqua and can also be utilised outside the system
Guide:
aqua tip: If you haven’t used the extension before, Capture is a helpful tool to record video, automatically capture events, and make your QA visual in other ways. You can get Capture on Chrome Web Store or Github.
Notes:
The process of starting the execution and recording is simplified. The test execution page doesn’t have the input field anymore: it was moved to the extension.
The new version of the extension is compatible with aqua version 22.123 and higher.
You need to update the extension to have new capabilities
Type in your browser:
chrome://extensions/
Find aqua Test recorder extension
Click the ‘Remove’ button
Go to Chrome Web Store and install Capture
Guidelines:
Step 1: Install or update the Capture extension.
Step 2: Pin it to the toolbar of Chrome extensions to always have quick access to Capture.
Step 3: Open a test case and start execution. Click the ‘Capture’ icon on the Chrome toolbar.
Step 4: Insert a link to a web app or website you want to test and click the ‘Run a session’ button.
Step 5: The page or web app will open in a separate tab, and you can proceed with testing as before. All data will be automatically passed to aqua.
Step 6: You can add videos to your test execution if you want to demonstrate what exactly was done or show what actions need to be performed to reproduce the defect. Click the ‘Record a video’ button and select what you want to record. You can choose between the entire screen, an app or a Chrome tab.
Step 7: Perform the actions the way you do it during the regular test run. Once you are done, click the ‘Stop’ icon or the ‘Stop sharing’ button.
Step 8: Preview the recorded video.
Step 8: If you are happy with the recorded video, click the ‘Set to aqua’ button and the video with the steps and additional information will be added automatically to aqua.
Notes:
When clicking on a screenshot option while you are at the test execution tab, it will take a screenshot of the current page. If you want to take a snapshot of a screen or capture the screen area of another page, you can navigate to that page and click the corresponding option on the extension. You will still need to download the image and upload it to aqua.
The screenshot feature will be improved within next iterations.
Step 9: You can use the extension outside of aqua whenever you need to record a video or take a screenshot.
You can add the media to aqua requirements or defects as files or upload it to any system you use.
Anytime you want to create a video or do a snapshot, just click the ‘Capture’ icon and start recording.
Step 10: Once you finish the recording, just click the ‘Save’ button and the video or screenshot will be saved to your desktop.
Every release, we do small changes and improvements to make aqua’s UI/UX better. We heard your feedback on toast messages, so we made them smoother.
From now on, all toast messages will appear in the bottom right corner of the app and stay for 10 seconds before disappearing. The new approach is a less intrusive and more subtle way of displaying the information.
It gives you more freedom to interact with the app and prevents frustrating situations where you are interrupted during an important task by a pop-up. The new implementation raises your attention to an important even, but does not distract you from work.
🤚 We continue to make aqua beneficial and easy to use. The upcoming releases will bring both new powerful features and user experience improvements. We can’t wait to share them with you
